Despite flirting with the notion of pursuing an opera career after I received my Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance, my roots are firmly planted in the soil of the American Standards; Gershwin, Porter, Berlin, etc. I love performing the music from this golden era! (Useless trivia quiz: Which famous singer used to live two doors down from my house? And no, I can't introduce you to her nephew, George.)
I've been fortunate to collaborate on several musical projects including my 2005 CD, On My Way, with the very talented Brett Scharf, and several recordings from the singing duo, Farmer & Frederick, with my dear friend and fellow soprano, Jennifer Farmer. My singing voice has been featured on three CDs of children's music produced by the wonderful people over at Super Simple Learning (www.SuperSimpleLearning.com), an educational program teaching solfege, and a handful of websites.
I am now operating a voice studio on the banks of the lovely Ohio River and have a roster of some very talented individuals. Naturally, I'm still recording so keep checking back...you never know when I'll be posting a new song or two!
If you'd like a copy of "On My Way," you can find it at www.CDBaby.com or simply contact me directly (ditto goes for any of the other music listed here).
A Foggy Day (in London Town) - George and Ira Gershwin from "A Damsel in Distress" (1937). This song is dedicated to JeT.
Crazy He Calls Me - An incredible piece of music from Sigman & Russell. I gotta admit, I've always been pretty partial to this sexy ballad.
When I Fall in Love - Young/Heyman's tune from 1952's "One Minute to Zero" which is worth a Google search in itself.
You Took Advantage of Me - Rodgers & Hart from "Present Arms" (1928). Linda Ronstadt and Nelson Riddle probably did the best recording of this song in the 80's.
I'm Old Fashioned - Kern and Mercer collaboration for the film "You Were Never Lovelier" (1942). Probably should be my theme song :-)
What'll I Do - Irving Berlin's tune from the "Music Box Revue" (1923). That breath support I learned in opera boot camp really helped with this one....
Bei Mir Bist due Schoen - by Kahn and Chaplin, although inspired by a traditional Yiddish tune. My own inspiration was Ella and the Andrews Sisters, of course. (btw, please excuse the lack of umlaut - my website won't allow it)
I Concentrate on You - Cole Porter from "The Broadway Melody of 1940". Can you tell I adore this man's work?
Everytime We Say Goodbye - Another Porter classic from 1944. Kudos to Diane Schuur for her inspirational interpretation of this piece.
You're the Top - Cole Porter's classic. Please note that there are some slightly risque lyrics at the end. These verses have been attributed to both Porter and his buddy, Irving Berlin.
